Colleagues,

 

I was reminded that there is another webinar in our 802.1 TSN tutorial series on Dec 2 at 9am ET:

I would encourage all 802 participants interested in TSN to join.   

 

In any case, as a result of this conflict and others, I have moved the technical plenary meeting to the suggested 4pm ET alternative on Dec 2nd.

Please let me know by Nov 17th if you have any agenda requests.  I will be providing an agenda on Nov 18th.

Colleagues,

 

Based on some offline discussions with Paul and others, I would like to restart the 802.1 technical plenaries to kick off a wider discussion on the 802 Overview & Architecture, as well as address cross 802 issues.

 

To avoid conflict during the busy virtual November plenary, the first in the series will be on Dec 2nd from 9-11am ET.

 

This series of meetings would:

  • Provide wider awareness for the need to revise IEEE Std 802
  • Provide an opportunity to discuss the content – notably should it be the same or should it add more architecture
  • Provide examples of the current 802 architecture (i.e., spread around in 802, .1Q, .1AC, .3, .11, .15.x, …)
  • Identify gaps in the current architecture

 

In addition, this would provide the opportunity to discuss technical points across all WGs, for example:

  • MAC service interface (and its support of 802 MAC/PHYs)
  • 48 and 64 bit bridging
  • Protocol IDs and their encoding – Length/Type and LLC

 

Topics for discussion are invited and should be proposed to the 802.1 WG chair.  The agenda and topics for the first meeting will be posted 14 days in advance.

 

Attendance is open to all 802 WG participants. To ensure all WGs are represented, 802 WG chairs are invited to identify at least one voting member to attend the technical plenary.
