CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
IEEE P3400™, Standard for Use of Inclusive Language in Technical Terminology and Communications


IEEE SA Board of Governors/ Strategic and Emerging Standards Committee/ Inclusive Language Working Group Meeting

 

 

 

 

 

 

You are invited to attend the kick-off meeting of a new IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA) project: IEEE P3400™, Standard for Use of Inclusive Language in Technical Terminology and Communications. The scope of this project is below.

The Working Group will be organized and launched at this hybrid kick-off meeting and is expected to hold regular virtual meetings and occasional hybrid meetings. Participation is free and open to all individuals with an interest in developing this standard. The Working Group is seeking diverse perspectives and global participation and invites you to participate yourself and to forward this announcement to others who many have an interest.

 

 

 

WHY GET INVOLVED

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This standard provides requirements for technical terminology and communications using the English language that are inclusive and inoffensive. These requirements apply to technical information in standards, policies, plans, procedures, reports, specifications; machine-readable languages, and text presented electronically. It also includes recommendations on how to replace such deprecated technical terminology and provides examples of alternatives.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

1.     Log in to the myProject system to indicate interest in following or participating in this effort.

o Note: An IEEE SA account is needed to access the system - just click on 'Create Account' if you do not already have one.

2.     Click on the 'Menu' icon at the top of the page and go to the 'Manage Profile and Interests' page.

3.     Click on the 'Interests' tab, click on the 'Add Groups' and search for 'P3400' or 'Inclusive Language Working Group.' Click on the button in the 'Groups I am Interested In' column to indicate interest in the group.

4.     Indicate whether you want to follow or participate in the activity and declare your affiliation.
