[802SEC] P802-REVc Task Group ballot

WG chairs,

With this message I would like to announce that I have initiated a task group ballot on P802-REVc ending on Oct 14th.   The announcement is attached and in the 802.1 email archive:

https://www.ieee802.org/1/private/email2/msg34405.html

As was discussed during the technical plenary in Montreal, we will run this task group ballot as a practice for the working group ballot using the agreed process.  That is:

  1. The ballot is initiated in the 802.1 WG under the Maintenance TG
    https://1.ieee802.org/maintenance/802-revc/
  2. The draft is in the 802.1 private area on grouper and privileges are set such that all 802 WG passwords grant access
    https://www.ieee802.org/1/files/private/802-REVc-drafts/d0/P802-REVc-d0.2.pdf
  3. Each WG chair is requested to conduct a comment collection using your WG process (for at least 30 days)
  4. Each WG chair is an ex-officio voting member and is requested to cast a ballot with the collected comments
  5. The 802.1 ballot is 45 days to give WG chairs sufficient time
  6. Each WG chair is requested to identify a representative to represent the submitted comments from that WG during comment resolution.
  7. Comment resolution meeting announcements and discussion will happen on the Architecture list - STDS-802-ARCH
    http://listserv.ieee.org/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=STDS-802-ARCH&A=1

As a result I would ask the WG chairs to initiate comment collection on this draft in your WGs.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers,

Glenn.

This Email is attached to an official 802.1 Task Group ballot form for P802-REVc/D0.2 - Draft Standard for local and metropolitan area networks - Overview and Architecture. As this is Task Group ballot, as opposed to a full Working Group ballot, all participants in the activities of IEEE 802 are invited to submit a ballot, regardless of their voting status in 802.1.

In addition, each IEEE 802 WG chair (as an ex-officio 802.1 voting member) is requested to collect and submit ballot comments on P802-REVc/D0.2 for their WG during this Task Group ballot. While anyone can submit a comment on the ballot, this process is recommended so that the WG chair vote can be recorded with the comments. The WG chair is not expected to change the commenter's name, review the comments collected or have WG consensus. The WG chair decides how they determine the vote on this ballot. Each WG chair is requested to identify a representative to represent the submitted comments from that WG during comment resolution.

The primary purpose of Task Group ballots is to solicit input that will assist the Editor to develop the draft to the point where it is ready for the Working Group ballot stage. A vote of "Approve" in this ballot is therefore appropriate if the document is ready for WG ballot; i.e., it is substantially complete, although there may still be technical details and issues to resolve at WG ballot. If you don't believe the draft is ready for WG ballot, the appropriate vote is "Disapprove", along with comments stating what changes need to be made.

The closing date of this ballot is:

14 Oct 2022

The PDF file of P802-REVc/D0.2 can be found at:

All IEEE 802 WG passwords may be used to access this file. If you have any difficulty downloading or reading this file, let me know.

As is normal with such ballots, comments should specify not only what problems have been identified with the text, but also what the commenter proposes as a solution. Any comments accompanying the ballot must be presented using the templates found here:

https://protect2.fireeye.com/v1/url?k=31323334-501d5122-313273af-454445555731-7cd3642b7a457674&q=1&e=bfea6845-551c-4029-adac-46f316281f01&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ieee802.org%2F1%2Ffiles%2Fprivate%2Fcommenting-tool%2FMyBallot-tools%2F

Please ensure that you are using the latest templates referenced by the link above, not a template from a prior ballot, and have completed the Affiliation entry.

Comments can be generated using Excel or an equivalent spreadsheet program that will read XLS or CSV format files. Attach the resultant file, in XLS or CSV format, to your ballot response email. The editor would appreciate the attached comment file clearly identify the commenter's name, project and draft number. The following file name format is suggested:

     p802-revc-d0-2-comments-<yourname>.xls
