Thank you, Dorothy!  I know about shaping coverage to areas, but often we refer to unshaped omni (or at least 2-d omni) coverage area.  If it’s accurate, I’m good.

Hello George,

The statement of area in this case is accurate. The essential point is that an area of over 70, 000 square meters is being

covered (we might just state this directly). Note that wireless coverage might be circular for a specific access point (depending on the antenna type) but need not be.

Additionally, placement of APs can provide coverage in a larger area of nearly any shape.

Thanks for the comment,

Dorothy

I’m fine with the suggested ‘soccer’ change, but perhaps we should actually be engineers here, and recognize we are talking about AREA in the text.  I ask my wireless friends – is what is being said accurate?  Is it the AREA of 10 soccer fields – given they’re not symmetrical, and wireless covereage is usually a circle.. Have we dumbed it down to the point where we lose meaning?

I suggest we replace "10 football fields" with "914.4 meters, or 1000 times the distance from the nose of  King Henry I of England to the thumb of his out-stretched arm."

Or we could go with "more than 900 meters".

FWIW

Clint,

Thanks again for your comment.  The co-author told me that the term "football" means "soccer".

Understanding that there are different interpretations on the term "football", we can consider replacing "some of these systems are serving an area the size of larger than 10 football fields" with "some of these systems are serving an area of larger than 10 soccer fields".    Please let me know if you have any specific concern on this proposed wording before I upload another revision to the mentor.

Regards,
Edward

Edward,

"serving an area the size of larger than 10 football fields" seems clumsy in wording.  In addition, this is a response to an European agency, so are we talking about American football fields, or European football pitches?  Seems that the example should be pitched to the audience.

Dear colleagues,

With this email I would like to announce the start of a LMSC ballot on a comment submission to European Commission Radio Spectrum Public Group (RSPG)’s consultation on DRAFT Opinion on “The development of 6G and possible implications for spectrum needs and guidance on the rollout of future wireless broadband networks”.

Dear EC members,

I would like to request the review of the following draft IEEE 802 submission by Monday 14 August 2023 A.O.E, before proceeding to either a 10-day letter ballot tentatively on Tuesday 15 August 2023.

Background:

On 16 June 2023, European Commission Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) began a consultation asking for public opinion on DRAFT Opinion on “The development of 6G and possible implications for spectrum needs and guidance on the rollout of future wireless broadband networks”.  For this DRAFT Opinion, there are a few  misconceptions on the implementation and applications of IEEE 802.11 based standards.  A few individuals prepared a response asking the administration to address these misconceptions.  The proposed response was discussed in the most recent IEEE 802.18 teleconference and approved by a motion with 15 Yes, 0 No, and 0 Abstain.
