IEEE 802 Family of Networking Standards, 1980-2024-1999
The necessity to standardize computer Local Area Networks (LANs) resulted in the IEEE Computer Society sponsoring LAN Standard Project 802 in 1980. Four 802 Working Groups formed by 1989 have been particularly successful and transformative: IEEE 802.1 (Bridging), IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet), IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi®), and IEEE 802.15 (Wireless Personal Area Networks). IEEE 802 standards have defined ever-expanding networking speeds and features, thus enabling the seamless interconnection of computing devices worldwide.

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the History Committee advocate charged with evaluating your milestone proposal intends to recommend to the IEEE History Committee that it accept the proposal. (link to proposal page on ETHW: https://ieeemilestones.ethw.org/Milestone-Proposal:IEEE_802 )
The IEEE History Committee expects to vote at its next meeting or teleconference (6 September 2023, Agenda deadline 1 pm New York time 23 August 2023) whether to recommend final approval of the milestone proposal by the IEEE Board of Directors.
In the course of evaluating milestone proposals, the advocates sometimes make changes to the text of the citation for clarity, length, or style. The citation as will be recommended is:

Please review any changes to the citation to make sure that the meaning is still as you intended it. Please respond with your approval as soon as possible so that the proposal can be prepared for the next agenda. If I do not hear from you, the History Committee will assume that the citation is correct. It is always possible that the full History Committee may make further changes if it approves the milestone.
If changes were recommended within the Comment tab, and you agreed with those changes, please log on to the proposal and change the citation to reflect those suggestions. The citation as shown in the proposal is the citation which will be acted upon by the History Committee and – eventually – by the IEEE Board of Directors.
