Re: [802SEC] Sold out hotel.

Very simple – then everyone starts playing this game of waiting to see if they can stay somewhere else.

The discount penalty is $300 – if someone is willing to stay at a very low end hotel they could easily make the decision to wait and see what happens.

As someone who has led multiple hosting efforts (10) within IEEE 802.3 – setting up a situation where it is easy to game the system is a recipe for disaster.

My two cents: this is the 100% right decision. Giving this waiver would lead to people waiting to reserve the hotel hoping it fills up so they can book with their preferred hotel…

By waiting they would've missed the early bird rate for registration so this strategy to save a few hundred dollars seems dubious. And so what anyway? If the hotel is full then IEEE has fulfilled its promise. What's the point of penalizing people for not staying in a hotel that they cannot stay in because it's full?

After some discussion, the decision is to not allow a sold-out hotel to be an uexcuse to waive the penalty for not staying in the hotel.
