IEEE 802.16 Session #94 Report
IEEE 802.16's Session #94 was held on 3-6 November 2014 in San Antonio, TX, USA. This Working Group (WG) plenary session was co-located with the IEEE 802 Plenary. The attendance list is posted.
Narrowband Ad Hoc Committee
The Working Group initiated a Narrowband Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Tim Godfrey, to consider drafting a PAR and backup material for a new project in support of specifying operation of existing IEEE Std 802.16 systems in narrower frequency band allocations. Teleconference periods on 20 January and 29 January were assigned, with the opportunity to submit a PAR to the March IEEE 802 EC meeting.
In Project P802.16q, Sponsor Ballot comment resolution was conducted. A recirculation will follow. The IEEE 802 Executive Committee authorized forwarding the draft for RevCom approval once comment resolution is complete. Comment resolution will follow in teleconference meeting of 5 December.
Project P802.16.3 met. A Call for Contributions on several topics, including the newly-updated IEEE 802.16.3 Architecture and Requirements for Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements, is active in preparation for upcoming teleconference meetings, beginning with a teleconference of 4 December. A solicitation for a Project Chair was announced; if interested, please contact the Working Group Chair at the address below.
Project P802.16r met. An earlier proposal to modify the project to address high-speed rail communications was addressed, with the decision made to consider the proposal as a new topic, not part of P802.16r. The high-speed rail communications concept was reviewed with the 802.15 Working Group, which decided to initiate an Interest Group on the topic, with a meeting in January 2015. The Working Group asked the IEEE 802 Executive Committee to place a request for the withdrawal of the P802.16r PAR on its agenda for March 2015.

About IEEE 802.16
The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards has developed and is enhancing the WirelessMAN® standards of IEEE 802.16 and 802.16.1 for wireless metropolitan area networks. It is also developing the IEEE 802.16.3 project on Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements. The IEEE 802.16 Working Group is a unit of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee, the premier transnational forum for wired and wireless network standardization. A list of IEEE 802.16 standards and drafts is available on-line, as is an archive of previous Session Reports. The IEEE 802.16 Interactive Calendar includes sessions and deadlines.
"802.16 News" Mailing List
The "802.16 News" mailing list ("stds-802-16-news") has the sole purpose of distributing major announcements related to the Working Group. Those interested in following the progress of the group but not in the day-to-day details may wish to subscribe. Only the Working Group Chair is eligible to post to the list, and mailings will be rare: once after each bimonthly session and additionally for major news, such as the approval of a new standard. Those subscribing to the stds-802-16 mailing list, for active Working Group participants, need not subscribe to stds-802-16-news since the postings will be redundant.
