IEEE 802.16 Logo

IEEE 802.16's Session #96 was held on 9-12 March 2015 in Berlin, Germany. This Working Group (WG) plenary session was co-located with the IEEE 802 Plenary. The attendance list is posted.

IEEE Std 802.16q-2015 Published

In IEEE Std 802.16q-2015 was published on 16 March 2015. The standard is for sale in the IEEE catalog.

Narrowband Ad Hoc Committee

The Narrowband Ad Hoc Committee, chaired by Tim Godfrey, met and held further discussions toward drafting a PAR and backup material for a new project in support of specifying operation of existing IEEE Std 802.16 systems in narrower frequency band allocations. Teleconferences on 6 April, 4 May, and 1 June were tentatively scheduled, with the opportunity to submit a PAR to the July IEEE 802 EC meeting.

Project P802.16.3: Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements

Project P802.16.3 met and planned a liaison communication to the IETF LMAP Working Group. The project will continue to meet during upcoming teleconferences.

Project P802.16r: Small Cell Backhaul with Carrier Ethernet

IEEE 802 Executive Committee accepted the WG's request for the withdrawal of Project P802.16r. The withdrawal request will be considered by the IEEE-SA Standards Board in June.

High-Rate Rail Communications

The IEEE 802.16 Working Group continues to co-sponsor the High Rate Rail Communications (HRRC) Interest Group of the IEEE 802.15 Working Group. The HRRC IG considered contributions when it met in January and March. It will continue to meet at future 802.15 sessions.

About IEEE 802.16
The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards has developed and is enhancing the WirelessMAN® standards of IEEE 802.16 and 802.16.1 for wireless metropolitan area networks. It is also developing the IEEE 802.16.3 project on Mobile Broadband Network Performance Measurements. The IEEE 802.16 Working Group is a unit of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee, the premier transnational forum for wired and wireless network standardization. A list of IEEE 802.16 standards and drafts is available on-line, as is an archive of previous Session Reports. The IEEE 802.16 Interactive Calendar includes sessions and deadlines.

"802.16 News" Mailing List
The "802.16 News" mailing list ("stds-802-16-news") has the sole purpose of distributing major announcements related to the Working Group. Those interested in following the progress of the group but not in the day-to-day details may wish to subscribe. Only the Working Group Chair is eligible to post to the list, and mailings will be rare: once after each bimonthly session and additionally for major news, such as the approval of a new standard. Those subscribing to the stds-802-16 mailing list, for active Working Group participants, need not subscribe to stds-802-16-news since the postings will be redundant.
