[STDS-802-11] [NG60 SG] Action Item on NG60 Press Release
--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---
Dear All,
In accordance with the action item that was assigned by the NG60 SG Pro Tem Chair during the opening session of the NG60 Study Group (SG), volunteers identified during the session met offline to discuss the modifications to the NG60 related Press
Release (PR) (Doc Nr: 14/1063r0). The outcome of the discussion is as follows:
- First, we discussed the necessity of issuing the PR itself
- Given that a PR is not mandatory, we concluded to recommend the SG Chair to seek the opinion of the group on the very need of the PR itself, especially at this stage (while we are kicking off the SG stage). The opinion can be sought by means of Motion/Strawpoll,
for instance
- Second, based on the results of the aforementioned Motion/Strawpoll, should the group decide to move ahead and issue a PR, we propose the following modifications to the specific paragraph that was identified as contentious (Note: the proposed modifications
are indicated in red colored text)
- Building on the success of existing IEEE 802.11 technologies, the new study group will define the scope of a future IEEE 802.11 amendment aimed at enhancing the efficiency and performance of IEEE 802.11
60 GHz deployments. NG60 efforts will be focused on significantly
boosting increasing IEEE 802.11 60 GHz speeds well beyond
30 gigabits per second, satisfying increasing demands for greater network capacity. Use cases to be considered include high-speed docking and cable replacements, ultra HD wireless display, multi-gigabit tri-band networking and access to the
cloud, cellular offload, and backhaul.
Thanks and Kind Regards,
Rakesh Taori.
