[STDS-802-11] wireless training project details

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

Dear 802.11 members,

Please see the email below.  It’s slightly off our normal topic,

but is still in line with the aims of the IEEE,  which is why I support

its presence on the reflector.

Walter is looking for 802.11 subject matter experts to review

the content of course modules that will be used to train folks on

networking in the developing world.

Best Regards,

Adrian P STEPHENS

Here is an outline that hits the points requested:

looking for volunteers from the 802 wireless community

·         what the project is

·         partnership between Internet Society (ISOC) and IEEE

·         humanitarian effort

·         provide online training (train-the-trainer level) to allow rural and underserved communities to deploy, operate, and maintain their own wireless networks

·         initial rollout area is India

·         leverages existing training material developed by “Wireless for Communities” (W4C)

·         W4C material based on open-source material from “Wireless Networking in the Developing World” (wndw.net)

·         the effort required

·         volunteers to review one or more of the online training modules as they are finished

·         first few are ready now

·         mechanism to provide comments/feedback will be provided

·         focus on hard errors

·         should be straightforward reading for typical 802.11 member

·         many hands make light work

·         how to get involved

·         Walter Pienciak <w.pienciak@xxxxxxxx> is coordinating the IEEE side

·         send an e-mail, give him a business card, stop him in the hall, etc.

This project is going to have a real and positive impact in various regions of the world.

Walter
