Ninth Joint IEEE 802 and ITU-T Study Group 15 Workshop Registration Available Now
What is the Workshop About
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the IEEE 802 LMSC (The IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee) are organizing the Ninth Joint IEEE 802 and ITU-T Study Group 15 Workshop taking place on 13 July 2024 in Montreal, Canada. Not having met since 2020, ITU-T SG15 and IEEE 802 LMSC are especially pleased to restart our successful series of joint workshops. This ninth edition will be in-person only. Attend free of charge for live engagement and maximized networking opportunities.

This workshop intends to offer a platform for all involved stakeholders and aims to focus on topics of common interest such as optical interfaces beyond 1T transmission, access and in-premises networks, synchronization and time-sensitive networking (TSN), YANG and data modelling.

The objectives of this workshop include, but are not limited to, enhancing long-standing collaboration and coordination between IEEE 802 and ITU-T Study Group 15 through discussion and information exchange on topics of common interest.

Target Audience
Participation in the workshop is open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU who wished to contribute to the work. This includes individuals who are also members of international, regional and national organizations. Participation in the workshop is free of charge.

Session 1: Exploration of Optical PHYs Addressing 800 Gb/s and Beyond 

This session will explore the development of optical PHYs addressing 800 Gb/s and 1.6 Tb/s and explore common areas of interest between the IEEE P802.3dj Task Force and the ITU-T.  The session will also explore the use of statistical link design approaches being considered within the IEEE P802.3dj project based on Recommendation ITU-T G.652 “Characteristics of a single-mode optical fibre and cable.”

Session 3: Synchronization and TSN

Synchronization and the propagation of time is a fundamental networking technology in various industries, e.g., in telecommunication networks (e.g., to support the operation of cellular networks), in industrial automation, in in-vehicle networks like automotive and aerospace. Time synchronization is also one of the tools in the toolset of IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking. This session provides updates and future plans of the following groups actively dealing with synchronization: ITU-T Q13/15, IEEE 1588, 802.1, and 802.3.

This session is about the practicalities of leveraging NETCONF/YANG for network modeling. The presentations provide background on YANG and how it has matured over the past ten years in adoption and application. Examples are provided to demonstrate the use of modeling techniques and tools to validate models. Recent news about how YANG is being used in the ecosystem are also provided.
