Re: [STDS-802-11] Unified Channel Model (UCM) TIG: Call for the Nomination of Vice Chair(s)/Editor(s)/Secretary

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Working Group Reflector ---

Dear Volker and 802.11 members,

I would like to volunteer as Editor of the UCM TIG. I have worked on wireless channel modelling and measurements since 2007 and created the QuaDRiGa radio propagation model in 2010, which I have maintained since. My background spans large-scale measurement campaigns, parameter extraction and calibration, and end-to-end implementations for link- and system-level evaluation across terrestrial and satellite systems. I received the Dr.-Ing. from TU Ilmenau in 2017; from 2007–2020 I was with Fraunhofer HHI working on measurement-based performance analysis in heterogeneous multi-cell networks. From 2017 to 2020 I supported the channel model development in 3GPP. Since 2020 I work as an independent consultant developing high-performance ray tracing and integrating stochastic channel-modelling approaches.

While I am relatively new to IEEE 802.11 standardization, my qualifications center on model design and validation (stochastic and quasi-deterministic), spatial consistency, cross-band propagation (sub-7 GHz and mmWave), and MIMO channel characterization. I have extensive experience maintaining widely used channel-model code (QuaDRiGa), producing reproducible results from measurements through simulation, and collaborating with academia and industry on Wi-Fi and 3GPP studies. I bring a measurement-driven, implementer’s perspective that I believe will strengthen the UCM TIG’s technical outputs.

Best regards,
Stephan Jaeckel

Dear 802.11 participants,

With this second email, I am calling for the nomination of Vice Chair(s), Editor(s) of the report (or parts in it) and a Recording Secretary for the UCM TIG.

Please, reply to this email with a self-nomination, or the nomination of a colleague, including a short introduction of the candidate. There will be an opportunity to introduce all candidates to the group with Q&A.

If there is an issue or you have any concern, please, contact me. I am happy to help you.

Best regards,
Volker

Dear Members,

At the July session we approved the formation of the Unified Channel Model (UCM) TIG. I have appointed Volker Jungnickel as the chair of this TIG.

The UCM TIG charter is to discuss use cases and requirements, develop a Unified Channel Model (UCM) and enable performance comparison of proposals for multilink operation (MLO) across sub‑7GHz / mm-wave / optical bands. The goal of the UCM TIG is to deliver a channel model that is spatially consistent across sub-7 GHz / mm-wave / optical bands, builds on already available and verified models, can be implemented using open software, and is well documented.

At the September session, the UCM TIG will meet

Tue EVE

Thu AM2

I understand that Volker already has a number of presentations lined up.

-Robert
