stds-802-16: your invitation to Singapore in May 2003

Bob,

At the Thursday night 802.16 Plenary, an 802.16 member relayed a message from Paul Struhsaker that Stuart Kerry considered as still open the invitation for 802.16 to meet in Singapore next May. The issue was discussed at length. The group was reluctant to renege on a promise made to Marianna Goldhammer, who was planning to host the 802.16 session in Romania. However, Marianna requested that the group act in the best interests of 802.16. The group decided that meeting along with the other 802 wireless groups would be most appropriate and voted to accept your invitation. We expressed our appreciation to Marianna for her generous offer to host the session and our apologies to her for changing our mind on the issue.

So, please include us in the planning for the May meeting, which will include 802.16's Session #25 on 12-15 May.

Regards,

Roger

>Next May, 802.11, 802.15, 802.18, and 802.19 (and maybe the mobility group depending on their status) are planning to meet in Singapore for the interim. Cisco is the primary sponsor for the event, although we are involving iDA (Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) in Singapore and expect the Singapore government to show interest in the event as they are very keen on things wireless. We are also looking to potentially do something in conjunction with the WiFi Alliance (WECA) either just before or after. The target week is May 12-16.

>This would seem like a good opportunity to make this an 802 wireless interim and would like to extend an invite to 802.16 to join in. We have two properties currently under consideration. One is the Raffles/Swissotel, which is huge and has more than enough space to accommodate a meeting of this size. The other is the Pan Pacific which probably not big enough. We will not need to decide until later in September after our respective interims.
>
>If this is of interest, could you poll your group at your upcoming meeting in September?? Let me know if you have any questions.
