Hi all,

Thanks for your comments during Friday's harmonization adhoc conference call. Here is a summary of the open issues for the "Enhancements to Normal Mode to Sleep Mode Transition (rev 1).pdf":

1. There was some questions raised regarding the usage of the proposed feature. Here is some explanation:

• The proposed feature allows the BS to put an MSS into sleep mode for a specific duration, during which the MSS shall not initiate to transition back to normal mode.
• The feature is meant for load control purpose. When the system is highly loaded, the BS can put some lower priority (class) MSSs into Sleep Mode, in order to conserve system resource. If the system is highly loaded, even the MSS goes back to normal mode, the BS will not be able to allocate UL resource anyway. Therefore, it is better to put the MSS in sleep mode to prevent the MSS from repeating its BW request transmission.

2. There was some discussion on whether BW request backoff will be sufficient to defer assignment of UL resource to a MSS when the system is highly loaded.

• My view on this is that although there is backoff time between subsequent BW requests, the random access used by each BW request ranging will cause unnecessary overhead, in addition to the overhead caused by BW request header. Therefore, it is better to put the MSS in sleep mode if system is highly loaded.

3. There was some suggestion to allow the MSS to perform HO related operation even though the MSS is requested by the BS to stay in Sleep mode for a specific duration

• I agree with this suggestion. We can include a description for the exception scenario, i.e. during the specifc duration, the MSS shall not initiate to transition back to normal mode except when the MSS intends to transmit handoff MAC management message.

Based on recent telecons, 2 points need resolution:

- Fast Notification Channel must be described in more detail

- Use 1 bit flag to indicate if new channel appears after DL map or not

 

- NBR-ADV changes Enhancements.to.NBR.ADV.doc
2 points to resolve:

- Can Neighbor BS ID (24 bits) be made optional

- Decision on adding Handoff Neighbor Preference (2 bits)
