[STDS-802-16] Additional information towards the May 2006 IEEE802.16 meeting

Dear IEEE 802.16 Members and Participants,

I would like to provide some additional information about the upcoming May
2006 meeting of 802.16 in Israel.

The venue:
The meeting will take place in David Intercontinental hotel in Tel Aviv. The
hotel’s address is 12 Kaufman Street, Tel Aviv, Israel. The further hotel
info can be found at its web site:
http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/1/en/hd/tlvha?amenitylink=true. PLEASE
do not register to the hotel directly, please do it through the conference
registration web site <http://www.myreg.co.il/IEEEisrael> .

Registration:
The registration web site is open, and its URL is
<http://www.myreg.co.il/IEEEisrael> . After registering you’ll receive an
email with a reference number, which will serve you for updating or checking
your registration details. PLEASE NOTE that on April 6 the registration fee
for the IEEE802.16 will increase from 300 US$ to 400 US$. At the end of this
mail you’ll find the list of people who have registered until now.

Friday trip:
You are all invited to a sightseeing trip on Friday, May 12, at no extra
charge. At the registration site you can indicate which trip route you
prefer - Dead Sea and Jerusalem or the Galilee and Christian holly places.

Flying in:
You will be arriving at the Ben-Gurion Airport (named after the first Prime
Minister of the state of Israel), which has the designation TLV. Ben Gurion
Airport is the hub of El-Al, the Israeli national airline, and is served by
many major airlines. Useful information can be found at
<http://www.iaa.gov.il/Rashat/en-US/Airports/BenGurion/InformationforTravele
rs/> .

Transportation between the airport and the hotel:
The easiest way to travel between the airport and the conference hotel is by
taxi. A taxi station is located after you exit the arrivals’ hall, to the
left. The travel between the airport and the hotel will cost about 120-150
NIS (about 25-30$), depending on daytime.

Currency:
The Israeli currency is called Shekel (which divides into 100 Agorot),
sometimes abbreviated NIS (New Israeli Shekel). The exchange rate is
approximately 1 US$ = 4.7 NIS. It is uncommon to accept payments in foreign
currency, except maybe at tourist shops. Foreign major credit cards are
commonly accepted. Note, however, that taxis do not accept credit cards, so
you will need to exchange some Israeli cash to get from the airport to the
hotel.

Electricity:
The mains voltage in Israel is 220 V, 50 Hz. Laptop power supplies and cell
phone chargers are usually universal, but you are advised to check that all
the appliances you bring withstand the 220 V. The electric outlets in
Israel are 3-pin with grounding. The electric outlets accept directly the
European 2-pin plugs. If you bring an extension cord with multiple outlets
(to conserve on the amount of adaptors used), please check that it contains
no surge arrestors that might fail at 220 V.

Weather:
The average temperature in Tel Aviv in May is 25oC (78oF). It is quite humid
(50-80%). Rain is extremely rare in May, so you may leave the umbrella and
bring the short-sleeve shirts. You’ll probably want to bring a swimsuit,
both for the Tel Aviv seashore (seawater temperature in May 23oC), and for
dipping into the Dead Sea on Friday - a unique experience.

To the participants who attend both IEEE802.16 and WiMAX CWG/TWG meetings:
After some uncertainty, which surrounded the CWG/TWG dates and location,
things cleared up and we’re progressing towards arranging it. The CWG/TWG
will be in Israel but in a different town, in Caesarea. Caesarea is a small
coastal town some 40 km north of Tel Aviv, known for its archeological
remains from the Roman period. The dates of the CWG/TWG meeting are 13-17
May, so if you attend both meetings you’ll want to check out of David
Intercontinental in Tel Aviv on Friday May 12th, participate in the Friday
sightseeing trip and check in to Dan Caesarea evening same day. We will
update the registration web site soon to cover the registration to the
meeting and the hotel of the WiMAX.

Visa issues - I’ll update in a separate mail soon.

Best Regards, and See You in Tel Aviv!
