[STDS-802-16] Friday 802.18 Telecon on IMT-Advanced issue

Folks,

I've just received notice of an 802.18 teleconference tomorrow (Friday) at 4:30 pm ET. [I had overlooked an earlier notice that arrived the day after Session #55. Sorry about that.]

The meeting deals with an input that 802.16 sent last week to propose a contribution to ITU-R regarding IMT-Advanced documentation. At the Session #55 Closing Plenary, the WG had discussed this issue. The following is a relevant quote from the ITU-R Liaison Group's report <http://ieee802.org/16/liaison/docs/L80216-08_035.pdf>:

3.2.6 Follow up with 802.18
It was noted that 802.18 will consider IEEE L802.16-08/032d0 and IEEE L802.16-08/033 in the afternoon of Thursday, 15 May 2008, in Jacksonville, FL.  If 802.18 can provide a speakerphone 802.16 members may participate. Ayman Naguib has kindly agreed to participate and other 802.16 members are welcome to do so as
well.

Motion: “The WG representatives to the 802.18 meeting be authorized to represent the following 3 issues:
1. IEEE L802.16-08/033 was approved in the WG closing plenary by vote of 51-0-0.
2. IEEE L802.16-08/032d0 was approved in the WG closing plenary by vote of 54-0-0.
3. The WG confirms that the material in IEEE L802.16-08/032d0 is the same as previously submitted in Document 5D/5 Section 11.”

The 802.18 meeting was scheduled for 1:30 am Friday morning, Macao time. Thanks to Ayman, José Costa, and others who waited up (until as late at 3 am) awaiting news regarding a phone link. As it turned out, no phone link was established, and the meeting was apparently deferred until 4 am Macao time. The note below reflects the outcome of that meeting.

If you plan to participate in this call, please let me know.

Regards,

Roger

Dear EC,

On Thursday 15 May during PM2 of the Jacksonville wireless interim
802.18 considered an input from 802.16 regarding IMT.EVAL. This input
was received on Tuesday, 13 May.

That document is located here:

Also considered was a response from 802.20. Those were the only comments
received by 802.18 but some in the meeting today stated that they had
not had sufficient time to consider the 802.16 input.

The 802.20 input is here:

ntrib.doc

Today's meeting decided that there was no way to evaluate the proposals
in a fair manner. The charter for 802.18 is to represent all of the
wireless working groups and, other than 802.20, none of the others had
time to review and comment on the 802.16 proposal. It was felt that more
time was needed to evaluate this proposal. The inputs to the next
meeting of ITU-R WP5D need to be submitted by 16 June 2008. To allow for
review by the EC of an 802.18 input to that meeting this work must be
completed by 6 June. A view was presented that there may be two
proposals resulting from this work, one to IMT.TECH and the other to
IMT.EVAL.

Today's meeting directed the chair to conduct conference calls to
attempt to develop an input to WP5D. In response to that the first call
will be held on Friday, 23 May. This call will be held in the same time
slot as the previous IMT Advanced calls, that being 3:30 p.m. CDT. While
I will host the calls the functional chair will be the 802.18 IMT
Advanced editor John Notor.

The bridge will be the same as for the previous IMT Advanced conference
calls:

+1.972.684.5262

Access Code: 4447518#

Please forward this to those in your WGs that have been involved in the
IMT Advanced work

Regards from Jacksonville,

Mike
