Ajay, thank you for expressing your concerns that I am certain we all share.
After a respectful moment of silence in honor of those that suffered in the
mindless tragedy that befell us, we did the only thing we could while
isolated in San Jose, and that was to go on with the meeting. My guess is
that some of our international colleagues have yet to board flights for
their return home.
In regard to your RPR question, and these comments are addressed to everyone
on the reflector: There are two major drafts on the web, both available
for review. There will also be informal groups meeting to refine these
drafts, and hopefully move them closer to each other and uncover areas where
we can reach relatively quick agreement. There are presently no announced
scheduled meetings to work through the technical details, although it is
likely that such meetings will take place before the November plenary
meeting. Keep posted to see if anyone announces any open meetings to review
the drafts. Whether or not that opportunity becomes available, I urge
everyone to study the two drafts, posted at
http://www.ieee802.org/17/documents/presentations/sep2001/sep_2001_presentat
ions.htm, nu_draft_01.pdf, and zz_draft_01.zip. It is only by understanding
these documents that we will be ready to make good progress at the next
meeting where we are likely to be presented with updates and refinements to
them. In addition to reviewing the drafts, please post your concerns,
comments, and suggestions for improving both drafts to the reflector so that
we can all come into the November meeting significantly ahead of where we
are now.
