First, a quick reminder. The State Table Ad
Hoc will be meeting today as follows:
Tuesday, October 22, 2002
1 - 2:30pm West Coast time
Call-in Number: 1-702-851-3330
Conference
Number: 8021722
To prime the pump for
today's discussion, I have a few questions about clauses 6 and 10 where I
believe there are descriptions made that lead to questions that should be
answerable by looking at state tables. And yet, I find no such tables that
contain the information. Here are the "pump priming" questions. They
are meant to open up discussion, rather than to be the principle topic of
discussion at today's teleconference. Others have reviewed sections of the
standard and will be coming up with concerns of their own. Our objective
is to uncover the questions and areas that need more state table development,
and to do it in a way or in a format that will be most helpful to the chapter
editors. Editors are requested to participate in this
process.
The Questions/concerns:
Clause 6: - Ringlet selection needs a state diagram. When is ringlet selection active? i.e. in what states? Is it active before topology
discovery? How are ringlets chosen
before topology discovery? How is
the wrapping option chosen? How is RPR MAC database populated with
information? Do state tables
describe how and what values get entered into it? How is default ringlet chosen? Where is 6.2.4.1 described in the state
tables? How does MAC know its
destination address is reachable?
The algorithm to choose ringlets may be implementation specific. However, the parameter values used must
be transmitted according to rules specified in the standard and in its state
diagrams. 6.3: A methodology of
setting bounds that can be met must be demonstrated and contained within this
standard if it is usable by the RBOCS. Is
an informative annex required that provides some guidance on the part our MAC
plays on the performance of the RPR ring?
Clause 10, topology discovery: Does it work if the wring is in wrap and a new station gets in? Where do the state diagrams describe this? Do topology discovery frames get wrapped? Where is the answer in the state diagrams? In topology discovery what happens when a ring breaks? I expect that a portion of the output of the State Table Ad Hoc will lead to specific comments on Draft 1.0 for additional information to be contained in the state tables. Best regards,
