Hi Mike,
I just called the 800 reservation line and they told me
the room rate of $179CDN per night is no longer available
because there are no longer any more rooms available in the block
at that rate. The next best rate they could provide for the
IEEE group was $249CDN. My first thought was, why did we only reserve
45 rooms in the block for that rate. The turn out for our meetings
is usually quite a bit higher than that.
Right after finishing with the 800 line, I decided to
call the hotel directly and see what would happen
if I made a new reservation with them. I went through
and booked a 2nd reservation and they immediately gave me
a room at the $179CDN per night. After finishing with
the 2nd reservation, I went back and canceled the first.
The 800 reservations agent could not provide any explanation
as to why there was a descrepancy in the rates.
Can you have our meeting coordinators look into this?
RPRWGers - You may want to call the hotel directly if you
find you are not getting the conference rate.
Mike - It does raise a question in my mind regarding the
deal we have with this hotel. The hotel should be able
to guarantee the $179 for whatever number of rooms we
need up until the reservation deadline of 4/25/03?
If people are not able to get the conference rate, isn't
that going to discourage people from staying at the
conference hotel?
