Re: [RPRWG] 802.11 Proposed PAR for Consideration: P802.11w under 30-day rule

Mike,

(Michael Takefman- Chair 802.17)

I have been watching your 802.17 reflector traffic on the subject of the
802.11w PAR and have received a reply from the Study Group Chair Jesse
Walker which I feel helps your groups understanding of the criteria of this
PAR.

Please feel free to contact me or Jesse Walker directly if we can help
further.

Regards,

Stuart

--- This message came from the IEEE 802.11 Technical Reflector ---

Stuart,

Thank you for bring this to my attention.

Presumably the Task Group would, if approved, decide how to fulfill the PAR.
My expectation is, however, that 802.11w would extend 802.11i to apply to
802.11 management frames as well as data frames, as this would be the
simplest solution.

It is worth noting that 802.1ae has no relevance to the problem posed by the
PAR. The PAR was written to address 802.11 management frames. 802.11
management frames are control messages purely internal to the 802.11 MAC,
and are invisible to all higher layers, including 802.1. 802.1ae, on the
other hand, applies only to what 802.11 views as data messages, i.e., to
messages that are transmitted across the MAC-SAP via the UNITDATA
primitives.
