Re: [802.19] Standards relevant to 802.19 PAR

Wendong,

Could you explain the wireless control channel mechanism you mentioned?

Steve,

There would be certain degree of overlaps among .22 and .19's coexistence work in TVWS, depending on how the scope of .19's new PAR is to be defined.

If .19's new PAR will cover the coexistence of TVWS devices with TV band incumbents, or/and cover the self-coexistence among the TVWS devices, then there will be a strongly similarity to between .19 and .22. Additionally, 802.22 has specified a wireless control channel mechanism to facilitate the inter-network coexistence. As you suggested, .19 and .22 would become similar if .19 also wants to cover this area.

Wendong

Wendong,

	Thanks.

	We need to be clear about the similarity.

	The following three standards project are for new MAC/PHY to operate in the TVWS
1.	802.22
2.	802.11 TVWS
3.	CogNea

	However, the 19 work is on coexistence of these standards, so they are related but they are for offering wireless protocol in the TVWS where 19 would of course develop coexistence in the TVWS. If the 19 SG considers a wireless control channel then that would be more similar to the three standards project listed above.

Steve,

IEEE 802.22 should be listed as a similar standard as well.

Wendong

The following standardization activity would be relevant to Section 7.1 of the PAR:

Standardization Body: Ecma International (http://www.ecma-international.org/memento/TC48-TG1.htm)

Scope: Wireless communications using Television White Spaces (TVWS).

Programme of work:
1. To develop and maintain Standards and Technical Reports for TVWS wireless communication systems, including:
     o  Physical Layer (RF and Baseband);
     o  MAC layer (Media Access Control);
     o Protocol and mechanisms for coexistence.
2. To cooperate and liaise with other organizations and standardization bodies.

Convenor
Dr. Kyutae Lim (GEDC)

Secretary
Mr. O. Elzinga (Ecma)

Monisha
