It’s not only for tourists visiting Japan!
The 180-day rule allows experiments using wireless equipment without the conformity marking to be used in Japan for that period of time from the date of notification to MIC,
provided that it meets conditions such as conforming to technical standards equivalent to those stipulated in the Radio Law (Article 4-2, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Radio Law).
This time, it is extended to include 6 GHz VLP and LPI devices.

On 18 October 2024, Japan MIC began a consultation that seeks public opinion in allowing tourists visiting Japan to use wireless equipment brought in by them for a limited period of 90 days from the date of entry into the country, provided that the wireless
equipment meets certain
conditions, such as conforming to technical standards equivalent to those set forth in the Radio Law. (Article 4-2, Paragraph 1 of the Radio Law).
For the proposed change in regulations, it involves UWB, 60 GHz low power data communication system, 60 GHz moving object detection sensor, 6 GHz WLAN, and Thread communication standard devices (2.4GHz band).

The official submission deadline is 18 November 2024. If you would like IEEE 802 LMSC to submit a response, please bring a contribution to IEEE 802.18 to review and consider approval no later than the opening meeting of the November 2024 plenary.
