Re: [802.19] Japan's consultation in relaxing technical conditions for tourists' equipment (UWB, 6 GHz, 60 GHz, 2.4 GHz)

Deae Tomo-san,

Thank you!   I am sorry that when I sent this notice out, I did not have an extensive review of this consultation.

After my review, I understand that the admin proposes the following:
1) Addition of systems subject to the special system for devices brought overseas (90-day rule), which is related to 60 GHz and UWB devices
2) Addition of systems subject to the special system for experimental radio stations (180-day rule), in which the proposed regulation extends it to 6 GHz VLP and LPI Wi-Fi, which may be of interest to us.
I will post an unofficial translation on the mentor soon.

Regards,
Edward

Hi Edward and all,

It’s not only for tourists visiting Japan!

The 180-day rule allows experiments using wireless equipment without the conformity marking to be used in Japan for that period of time from the date of notification to MIC, provided that it meets conditions such as conforming to technical standards equivalent to those stipulated in the Radio Law (Article 4-2, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of the Radio Law).

This time, it is extended to include 6 GHz VLP and LPI devices.

Best regards,

tomo

Subject: [802.19] Japan's consultation in relaxing technical conditions for tourists' equipment (UWB, 6 GHz, 60 GHz, 2.4 GHz)

Dear 802.18 participants,
cc. 802.11, 802.15, 802.19 participants,

On 18 October 2024, Japan MIC began a consultation that seeks public opinion in allowing tourists visiting Japan to use wireless equipment brought in by them for a limited period of 90 days from the date of entry into the country, provided that the wireless equipment meets certain
conditions, such as conforming to technical standards equivalent to those set forth in the Radio Law. (Article 4-2, Paragraph 1 of the Radio Law).

For the proposed change in regulations, it involves UWB, 60 GHz low power data communication system, 60 GHz moving object detection sensor, 6 GHz WLAN, and Thread communication standard devices (2.4GHz band).

For details, please visit:
https://www.soumu.go.jp/menu_news/s-news/01kiban12_02000163.html

The official submission deadline is 18 November 2024.  If you would like IEEE 802 LMSC to submit a response, please bring a contribution to IEEE 802.18 to review and consider approval no later than the opening meeting of the November 2024 plenary.

Regards,
Edward
