As I read these definitions, it does not agree with the definition we discussed.

 

One definition says AI  is the operation system.  A second says it's the RF [Physical layer].   A third says its a "shared boundary".

 

Since there appears to be no agreement, I suggest we remove the term "Air Interface" from the standard.  And further we make a recommendation to the 802.20 committee that the standard should not use the term "Air Interface".

I have found these definitions:

 

1.  Air Interface: The standard operating system of a wireless network. Technologies include AMPS, TDMA, CDMA and GSM. (Source: Cingular Wireless website)

2.  The air interface is the shared boundary between a mobile and the base station.
