As we prepare
for Letter Ballot in March, its clear 802.21 has come a long way. However
we still have significant challenges going forward. We need to work with
different media specific SDOs in 802, IETF and 3GPP/3GPP2 to get 802.21 specific
amendments done. We also need to work very closely with operators and other
alliances such as FMCA to better understand their needs for adoption and
deployment of 802.21 and do the needful. That’s one way forward to get industry
acceptance for an emerging standard such as 802.21.
We do need to
complete the current work and continue to make progress towards the ballot
process. However if there are opportunities for tackling other handover related
issues we need to look into those and see how we can address them within
802.21. This could involve creating other sub-groups or task-groups within
802.21 and we could do other things in a more staged manner.
For these reasons
and other upcoming exciting opportunities I would like to announce my candidacy
for Chair in 802.21.
