Dear Participants,

This is a reminder to register for the upcoming interim session if you have not done so, and review the meeting schedule to ensure your travel arrangements are sufficient.

Also, our deadline for Presentation requests is closing in. We will use midnight, AOE on Sept. 14th, 2012 as the deadline.

Finally, we are now officially a Task Force. The first job of our new Task Force is to produce baseline proposals with which to generate a draft. I will be reviewing the proposed schedule for our project at the upcoming meeting, and it will show that the time to start forming consensus proposals is *now*. :)

Given our history of presentation, you should be aware of others who share common views on what to standardize and how to achieve it. I recommend working together to develop joint proposals and seeking out commonality.

Best Regards,

Acting Chair, IEEE p802.3bm Task Force

Dear Study Group Participants,

The IEEE P802.3bm* Task Force will be meeting for the first time at the IEEE 802.3 September Interim Session in Geneva, Switzerland.  The IEEE P802.3bm* Task Force will be meeting Wednesday, September 26th through Friday September 28th, 5pm.  There is no meeting fee, however, meeting registration for access to the ITU facilities is required.
A separate registration is required for the joint ITU-T/802.3 workshop and the 802.3 Interim. Please visit the interims page at http://ieee802.org/3/interims/index.html and follow the links to each registration page. There is no meeting fee for either meeting. Please register as soon as possible.

This means you will receive two badges, one for the joint workshop on Saturday, and one for the interim. If you will not be at the joint workshop, you (of course) do not need to register for it.
Also, please note that there is no meeting hotel for this interim.  Participants are responsible for selecting and booking their own hotel.

Registration information, hotel listings, and meeting details may be found at http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/3/interims/geneva_info_0912.html.    You are strongly encouraged to make your reservations as soon as possible.

The agenda for the meeting will be to receive presentations related to potential baseline proposals addressing objectives identified by our Study Group.

Please note; Presentations should be kept to a maximum of 20 minutes in duration, excluding time for questions and answers.  Requests for presentation time greater than 20 minutes will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the requestor should contact the chair prior to making the request to justify the additional time.

Requests for presentation time must be made two Fridays preceding the meeting.  For the September Interim meeting, requests for presentation time shall be made to me and must be made by September 14, 2012.  The presenter shall e-mail a PDF, soft-copy version of the presentation to me by Tuesday of the week preceding the meeting.  For the September Interim, presentations must be submitted by September 18, 2012.  Please copy Kapil Shrikhande our vice-chair on all requests.

Please note that I will be traveling internationally prior to the submission date, so please allow additional time if you need to discuss any issues with me prior to the submittal dates.

As a reminder, please make sure that all requests for presentations or submissions of presentation material have no restrictive notices at the bottom of the email.  All such emails will be refused and requests / presentations will not be acknowledged.

All individuals submitting presentations should review the Procedures for Presenters Page - http://www.ieee802.org/3/100GNGOPTX/public/presentproc.html.

I would greatly appreciate presenters reviewing their own presentations to verify that they have followed the cited Presentation Style Guidelines.  Also, to support the web site search tool used by the IEEE P802.3 web site the 'Document Information' fields of the PDF file must be completed as follows:

Title: Title of presentation
Author: Name(s) of author(s)
Subject: IEEE P802.3bm*  40 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s Optical Ethernet Task Force

As a reminder to the group, we are a contribution driven organization.   It should not be assumed by anyone that work will just get done without contributions to drive it.  Areas not moving forward will be brought to the attention of the Task Force for consideration on how to address.  .

Wishing safe travels to all and we will see you in Geneva.

Best Regards,

Dan Dove
