[10GBT] Functional block diagram

Looking through the 1000BASE-T standards (802.3 clause 40), I see a figure that is quite central to the descriptions and the subclauses. This is Figure 40-3. The blocks identified in this figure may not reflect any actual implementation but form the basis of organizing a lot of the pieces of the standard. The figure also identifies the interfaces and some of the service primitives

As we start drafting 802.3an, it will be helpful to come up with the equivalent figure for 10GBASE-T. Those of you who have active proposals on the table should look at how you can modify this figure to reflect your proposal. Minimal modifications will make it more likely that we can reach a consensus on the final figure. Others who went through standardizing and building 1000BASE-T parts - feel free to suggest changes based on your learnings.

At the minimum, the GMII interface gets replaced with and XGMII interface. For those who do not have access to the 1000BASE-T standard, I am attaching the figure in .rtf format that should be readable by Microsoft Word

Translating from Frame to Word may have messed up some text so refer to the original in 802.3 clause 40 if you have any doubts.

I also took the first step and changed GMII to XGMII in the text labeling the interface on the left.

Thanks,
