Re: [10GBT] COMMENT PERIOD FOR P802.3an/D1.1

Title: COMMENT PERIOD FOR P802.3an/D1.1
IEEE P802.3an Task Force Members:
As we work towards making the draft technically complete, I thought it might be useful to outline some key areas where we have a significant number of TBDs in Draft 1.1; we should plan to adopt baselines at the November Plenary on at least the first four if not all. This list does not cover all the TBDs:

1) Full specification of the transmit frame: The symbol rate and modulation have been selected (PAM12 at 800MHz); 64/65B framing was adopted; we need a baseline for the LDPC code and a complete specification of how the data stream coming to the PHY via the XGMII interface gets mapped to specific PAM12 symbols and the associated framing around the LDPC blocks. Any proposal for this should  be consistent with prior motions that were passed by the Task Force and should include simulation results  (or references to results presented at prior meetings) showing performance of the LDPC code proposed going below BER of 1E-12 and an analysis of the undetected error rate.

2) Baseline specification of the THP: The Task Force approved "A small number of selectable precoders specified by rational transfer functions." We need a baseline for the number and for each of the selectable precoders.  I recommend that this include  the  numeric precision required  and include simulation results showing the penalty from using an optimal precoder over a variety of channels.

3) Power backoff: Number of levels and how they will be selected.  Make the proposal as specific as you can and provide a supporting presentation justifying the proposal at the upcoming meeting.

4) Transmit PSD mask and/or associated pulse templates ; make the proposal as specific as you can. Based on discussion in the meeting so far, I suggest that a proposal on this should provide some indication of how this affects the  PAR and the system margin. I expect that verification of whether this PSD will meet FCC/CISPR emission limits will take some time.

5) Startup:  Method and detailed state diagrams including values for timers.  We may need Task Force agreement on the basic approach before we lock down details such as timer values.

Please feel free to comment on the above list or suggest additional items. The above is not an exhaustive list.

Sanjay Kasturia

Subject: [10GBT] COMMENT PERIOD FOR P802.3an/D1.1

IEEE P802.3an Task Force Members:

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE P802.3an Task Force comment period on P802.3an (10GBASE-T).  If a Task Force member plans to make a presentation for adoption into the next draft, then it is highly recommended that the Task Force member submit a comment with a reference to their presentation as part of the suggested remedy.  As the Task Force resolves comments related to presentations, the Task Force at any point in time may take motions to adopt presentations into the draft.

HOW TO SUBMIT COMMENTS
If you have comments, you can access the comment generation tool at the following URL:
http://www.ieee802.org/3/an/public/10GBT_Comment_Tool.zip

This is a Windows-based run-time database application. Save the compressed zip file to a directory where you wish to uncompress the file. Once you uncompress the file, do not move the directory or any files in the directory as this may prevent the executable program from running properly. Double-click on the executable file (EXE) to run the database application. If this is the first time you have used this comment generation tool, please read the instructions.

NOTE: Use of this tool is greatly preferred, as the output it generates is easy to import into our comment resolution database.

If you are unable to use the tool, please format your comments and submit them as described below.
Acceptable comment types:
E = Editorial
T = Technical
TR = Technical Required (a Technical comment that the commenter feels very strongly about)

To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it easier for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail. Enter your comment between "Comment:" and "CommentEnd:" and your suggested remedy to your comment between "SuggestedRemedy:" and "RemedyEnd:".
