[8023-10GEPON] preparing for July meeting

Dear all,

First, an update:

At its May meeting, the 10GEPON study group approved the PAR and 5 Criteria
and passed a motion requesting the working group chair to forward the draft
PAR and 5 Criteria to the 802 EC for consideration at the July 2006 Plenary
session. Accordingly, Bob Grow, the IEEE 802.3 chair has submitted the PAR
and 5 Criteria to the 802 Executive Committee on June 13th.

Further, the PAR and 5 Criteria will be considered by 802.3 working group
during the closing plenary session on Thursday, July 20th.

And finally, provided the WG approves the documents, the PAR and 5C will be
considered by the exec committee on Friday, July 21st.

So far we have the following items on our July agenda:

Unfinished business
-------------------
Discuss backward compatibility objectives. This item was brought up at the
May meeting, but it was not discussed before the meeting adjourned.

New Business:
------------
In May we passed a motion saying that the first order of business for July
10G EPON SG meeting should be technical presentations regarding tech
feasibility of 10Gb/s symmetric EPON with 29 dB optical link budget, with
consideration of throughput.

It is time to start working on presentations for our July meeting. I would
like to solicit presentations on the above topics. As usual, members are
encouraged to collaborate on presentations and gather broad support before
meetings.

If you would like to make a presentation, please follow the Procedure for
Presenters (http://www.ieee802.org/3/10GEPON_study/presentproc.html). The
official deadline for presentations is Wednesday, July 12th.

The Ethernet Alliance has recently formed 10G EPON technical subcommittee.
The EA has offered our study group support in the form of hosting
teleconference calls. If you see a need to have a teleconference, please let
me know and I will schedule it with the EA.

Best Regards,
Glen
