Subject: [802.3] July meeting announcement
Colleagues:
IEEE 802.3 will meet July 17-20 in San Diego, California, USA. All 802.3
meetings are scheduled for the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego. The
deadline for the early registration discount is fast approaching (30 June).
As always, the session announcement, registration and current hotel
availability information can be found through the "Next IEEE 802 Plenary
session notice" link on our home web page (www.ieee802.org/3). To receive
email updates and reminders for the plenary sessions, subscribe to the
stds-802-ALL reflector (http://listserv.ieee.org). The deadline for the
early registration discount is fast approaching (30 June).
The opening 802.3 working group (WG) meeting will begin at 1:00 pm on
Monday, July 17, and the closing 802.3 WG meeting will be 1:00 pm on
Thursday, July 20. These meetings will follow our typical agenda. (For a
typical detailed agenda, please see the minutes from previous meetings). The
detailed agenda will be approved at the meetings. As usual, task force
(TF), study group (SG), standing committee and any appropriate ad hoc
meetings will be scheduled between the opening and closing 802.3 meetings.
Also as usual, attendance credit toward membership requires attendance at
three of the four days of the IEEE 802.3 session, independent of how long a
particular TF might be meeting. The attendance books will only be available
on Thursday at the closing 802.3 plenary meeting (not during the morning TF
meetings).
A number of issues will be considered at the Thursday 802.3 meeting.
Depending on the amount of discussion, the meeting may run beyond our target
5:30 pm ending time. To be safe if you are interested in the newer business
of the WG, you should plan to be in the meeting until at least 6:00 pm. I
look forward to seeing you in San Diego. Additional subgroup information
follows. Contact information for task force and study group chairs can be
found on our web site: www.ieee802.org/3.

802.3 BUSINESS (Mon & Thu)
In addition to regular WG and project business, the following items will be
on the agenda during the plenary week.
* There will be one call for interest as detailed below.
TASK FORCE / STUDY GROUP MEETINGS
P802.3an Task Force - 10GBASE-T (not meeting)
P802.3an has completed its work and the only item of business is a final
task force report at the 802.3 opening plenary.
P802.3ap Task Force - Backplane Ethernet (Wed-Thu)
P802.3ap is in the Working Group ballot process. A 5th WG recirculation
ballot on P802.3ap/D2.5 will be conducted before the July meeting. The
comments from that ballot will ultimately determine the meeting
requirements, but at present, it is expected that the task force will only
meet on Wednesday with Thursday morning being an editors meeting. The task
force anticipates requesting approval for advancement of the project to
Sponsor ballot during the Thursday closing 802.3 meeting. TF information is
available on our web site. Individuals wishing to present during the task
force meetings should contact the Chair, Mr. Adam Healey. Presentations
will be limited to specific recommendations for comment resolution. The
availability of pre-posted presentations (if any) will be announced on the
TF reflector shortly before the session.
P802.3aq Task Force - 10GBASE-LRM (Tue morning)
The 3rd Sponsor recirculation ballot on P802.3aq/D4.0 will close 30 June.
If any comments are received on this ballot, they will be addressed in the
Tuesday morning task force meeting. The task force expects to request
approval for submission of the project to the IEEE-SA Standards Board Review
Committee for approval as an IEEE standard. Those wishing to request agenda
time for the task force meeting should contact the Chair, Mr. David
Cunningham.
P802.3ar Task Force - Congestion Management (Tue afternoon)
The Congestion Management work started in 802.3 has now been split between
our P802.3ar task force and an 802.1 Congestion Management study group. The
802.1 study group will meet for a day and a half Wednesday through Thursday
morning to avoid overlap with P802.3ar. The 802.1 study group has produced
a PAR for consideration at the July meeting and will be presenting a
tutorial in support of that work. A modified PAR for P802.3ar will be
considered reflecting that split of the work. It is also expected that the
P802.3ar task force will be requesting approval of WG ballot on Thursday at
the closing 802.3 plenary meeting. Those wishing to present during the task
force meeting should contact the Chair, Mr. Kevin Daines.
P802.3as Task Force - Frame Format Extensions (Tue morning)
The P802.3as/D3.2 2nd Sponsor recirculation ballot will open and close prior
to the July plenary week, and comments on the draft will be considered
during the Tuesday morning task force meeting. The task force anticipates
requesting approval for submittal of the project to the IEEE-SA Standards
Board Standards Review Committee for approval as an IEEE standard. Those
seeking information on the project can find it on the 802.3 web site or may
contact the Chair, Mr. Kevin Daines.
P802.3at Task Force - DTE Power Enhancements (Tue-Thu)
The P802.3at project will continue to consider technical proposals for
possible inclusion in an initial P802.3at draft. In addition, TF members
have been tasked with maintenance requests related to DTE Power. Those
wishing to present during the task force meetings should contact the Chair,
Mr. Mike McCormack.
P802.3-2005/Cor1 - Isolation Corrigendum (Thu morning)
Work on 802.3au (P802.3-2005/Cor1) is complete and the only item of business
is a final task force report at the 802.3 opening plenary.
10 Gb/s EPON Study Group (Tue-Thu)
The study group held its first meeting in May and has developed a PAR and
Five Criteria for P802.3av to be considered during the July plenary meeting.
While awaiting PAR approval, the group will refine its objectives and
consider proposals. Those wishing to present during the study group
meetings should contact the Chair, Mr. Glen Kramer.
Rules, Maintenance, Interpretations (Tue afternoon)
The rules meeting will cover any requested rules changes submitted prior to
the July session deadline. New and outstanding maintenance requests will
also be processed during the week. Maintenance discussions will include
planning for the next revision of 802.3. Any new interpretation requests
will also be considered.

CALL FOR INTEREST
Higher Speed Ethernet Call for Interest (John D'Ambrosia) (Tue 6:00 pm)
Rising volumes of data are causing congestion to occur at various
aggregation points, such as within internet exchanges, data centers, cluster
computing, and the enterprise. 10 Gigabit Ethernet links in combination
with 802.3ad Link Aggregation are being deployed at these aggregation
points; however, projected bandwidth requirements indicate that in the
future this will be insufficient. It is the time to study the effort, scope
the task, and start towards the development of a standards-based solution to
bring relief to these congestion points. This call for interest is to
request the formation of a Higher Speed Study Group (HSSG) to begin this
task.
