Review of Ottawa Meeting
-------------------------
Mike gave his personal take aways from the meeting:-
        i) we made progress on the channel agreeing 2 fiber sets
ii) the launch remains an open issue, especially with OM3 work presented
iii) Adaptation issues are not yet fully understood and hence fully reflected in our work
iv) There are mixed views on whether or not the Tx spec can be relaxed beyond LR type specs

Lew presented his thinking on where we got to in the motion setting session:-
For perfect wording of the motions please see the meeting minutes. The purpose here is to give the thrust of the motion and then conclude how TP3 should progress on it.

#1 Passed a motion to develop a transmit penalty test but also not to dismiss the eye mask test, but instead to work to improve it.
Impact for TP3 group: TP2 related motion no specific action for TP3

#2 Failed motion to eliminate dynamic adaptation test
Impact for TP3 group: The concerns expressed related not so much to the speed of the changes or the penalty but more to whether an EDC implementation can move between very different channels with no errors. The group agreed to work on an alternate test designed to test the ability for an equaliser to move between pre-cursor and post-cursor channels.

#3 Passed a motion for an informative simple stressed sensitivity test
Impact for TP3 group: Still have some details to fill out, for example BT filter bandwidth. Address this when channel work is complete. Not a current focus

#4 Passed a motion to adopt a static stressed sensitivity test
Impact for TP3 group: Still need to work on detailed parameters (noise power etc) and methodology (which ISI channels etc) - This is one area of focus over the next few weeks

The following motions were not presented at the IEEE meeting will be discussed at our next meeting (see attached):-

#5 Adopt specific parameters for jitter and Max OMA
#6 Adopt OMA methodology as per IEEE LR spec and define OSNR levels
#7 Develop 3 types of channels to represent the different forms of ISI impairement. Use the 5 IPR model as a means of demonstrating an acceptable representation of these channels. Also no longer use PIE-L and ensure rise times are not less than 46ps.

The group agreed the following work items:-
         i) Link budget
                - definition and validation
        ii) Informative sensitivity test
        iii) Static sensitivity test
iv) Need for a dynamic test
        v) RIN
        vi) Modal noise
        vii) OMA measurement

And chose to focus on the folloiwng for the next couple of calls:-
        i) review Lew's motions which were not heard at the meeting (#5-7)
        ii) Static channel methodology
                - noise loading
                - channel types and exact characteristics
o i.e. do we pick pre, post cursor and quasi symmetric and if so where from? 108 fiber model?
        iii) OMA measurement methodology.

In reviewing Ottawa we dealt with alot of inputs at this meeting. Please get back with me if you think the group should be steered in a different direction.

Best Regards

Mike
