XAUI/XGXS Question

Can anyone help with the following:
Why the /A/ Code word is needed? Isn't it sufficient to do Skew Elimination
between the lanes whenever the first data word (Dxx.y code-word) and the /S/
code-word in lane 0 appears after IPG?
