Re: Big B, little b
Regarding the Style Issue

In the case of the 8-bit-Byte to 10-baud-Byte-equivalent (8B10B) mapping
code, I've seen arguments on whether to include the "/" (8B/10B) or not
(8B10B) before, but I've never run across the little "b." We can be
traditionalists and choose big-B or egalitarians and let little-b have a
turn.
In the balance, I'd recommend we follow R&P's (Ridemer (sp?) and Pressanik
(sp?)) patent nomenclature. I think they used "8B/10B." Maybe someone can
pull out a copy. I left my copy at my old job back in Florida, and I'm not
going back until folks there learn how to count -- or the Tampa OIF
meeting, whichever comes first.
Regarding the Patent Issue

There is a favorable answer to the patent question, but I can't dispense
legal advice on the internet -- partially because it's a bad idea, but more
importantly because I don't know how. Like one of our leaders said at the
plenary in Tampa, "one of the things I'm most thankful for in life is that
I'm not a lawyer."

You didn't ask, but it's okay with me if you use "laser" without spelling
out Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation (LASER), since
everybody knows that already. However, if you ever mention an SMA
connector, you may want to indicate that SMA stands for: SMA is My Acronym
(SMA). It was named on The TTP Project (TTP).
See you all in Austin,
