The focus of the 1TPCE project is indeed "automotive" rather than "vehicular".
That limited focus shows up in the tech objective which is 15 meters.
That short reach is recognized as limiting for generalized vehicular use.

Once we get the standard established we will, of course, be tickled to have uses found for it elsewhere.
But it in the meantime the project is carefully focussed on automotive, its needs and its volume.

As this was my first IEEE session I noticed one very clear term used over and over.  That is "automotive".  Here at Intrepid we have adopted the term "In-Vehicle" or "Vehicle" because the term "automotive" generally refers to passenger vehicles while "Vehicles" refers to a broader market including: On-Highway trucks (LKW), Military vehicles, Construction/Forestry machines and Agriculture equipment.  All of these industries currently use the same vehicle networking technology as the automotive industry.  

Since one of the clear goals of IEEE is broad market acceptance, it might be a good idea to not limit all wording and focus for Ethernet in the vehicle area to solely "automotive".  Our customers at John Deere for example, do not consider themselves as part of the automotive industry even though they use the same vehicle networking technology.

Of course this is only a suggestion.  I look forward to seeing you again during the next set of meetings.
