[802.3_ISAAC] additional clarification for presentation chini_3dm_01a_1124

Ahmad –

Thank you again for the presentation.  There seem to be a number of things in the presentation that it isn’t clear how or whether these would be specified in an Ethernet PHY standard.  If you could clarify whether these are potential product features (I don’t believe this was a product pitch, but rather potentially a discussion of potential variations that one might make…)

Specifically, looking at slides 12, 13, and 14,  it wasn’t clear how the following came into an 802.3 PHY standard:

  • FIFO – is this specified somewhere in the standard?  If so where?
  • Latency – is this the latency specified xMII to xMII, xMII to MDI, or something else?
  • GPIO Delay Compensated reverse link – how would this be represented (if at all) in the standard?  Does it imply a special PHY mode?
  • GPIO Jitter – similar to the above.
  • Video latency – what are the reference points or the reference model for this?  Do these add anything to the standard?

Thank you again.  Understanding how these may fit within the standard will be helpful, particularly in understanding features to be added.
