In this case, if this limit is adopted, should 802.3dm include a list of cable combinations that it cannot support? For example, three 1-meter sections would not be acceptable. What other combinations might
violate the limit line? Best, From: Conrad Zerna <conrad@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Hi Alireza, I believe, this was already discussed before: this return loss result is due to all cable lengths being multiples of 1 meter. It can be easily avoided
to drive up the peaks in the RL by imposing a limitation on the segment lengths Hi Alireza,
I believe, this was already discussed before: this return loss result is due to all cable lengths being multiples of 1 meter.
It can be easily avoided to drive up the peaks in the RL by imposing a limitation on the segment lengths combinations at virtually no cost to the cable harness. If you do this, there are no limit violations.
Thanks,
Conrad

Subject: [802.3_ISAAC] [Return Loss] Cable channel IL and RL limits
CAUTION: This email is from an external origin!
Hi all,
I am sending this email to elaborate more on my comment in the meeting. I don't believe the ASA limit for return loss is the appropriate limit. In the presentation by Ramanjit Ahuja from November 2024, measurements of four cables showed violations of the ASA limit line in high frequencies.
I've included one of these measurements below for reference.
