Subject: [STDS-802-3] +++ 802.3 WG 2nd RECIRCULATION BALLOT: IEEE P802.3bq 40GBASE-T D2.2 ballot
Dear Colleagues,
This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot on the amendment IEEE P802.3bq 40GBASE-T. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 13th March 2015.
Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.
BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3bq/D2.2 and IEEE P802.3bq/D2.1 and the unsatisfied negative comments from the 1st recirculation ballot.
FIVE CRITERIA:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses which are available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bq/5Criteria.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the 5 Criteria responses.
BALLOT OPEN:
Sunday 16th August 2015
BALLOT CLOSE:
Sunday 30th August 2015 23:59 AOE
The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <http://ieee802.org/3/bq/P802.3bq.pdf> and includes the following:
TITLE:
IEEE Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer and Management Parameters for 40 Gb/s Operation, Type 40GBASE-T
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Specify a Physical Layer (PHY) for operation at 40 Gb/s on balanced twisted-pair copper cabling, using existing Media Access Control, and with extensions to the appropriate physical layer management parameters.
NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
With continued growth of server capabilities, network and Internet traffic, datacenters continue to require higher data rates for equipment interconnections. The IEEE 802.3 BASE-T family of technologies allows for seamless upgrade between older rates and newer rates. Currently, IEEE Std 802.3 does not support 40 Gb/s BASE-T operation. There is a market need for a low cost 40 Gb/s BASE-T solution with auto-negotiation capability for datacenter applications.
Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.

1. Prepare your comments in one of the following two ways:
a. You are STRONGLY REQUESTED to use the comment tool at the URL:
<http://www.ieee802.org/3/WG_tools/filemaker/Generic_Commenting_Tool.zip>
To use the tool, extract all components into a folder and do not move any component from that folder as this will cause the executable to not work correctly. The tool is:
Comment_Tool_Generic_Solution.exe
b. To submit comments in text (ASCII) form, please use the form below. This will make it possible for the editor to properly record and track all submissions. Make as many copies of the template as necessary and submit as an ASCII text file or as part of your e-mail.
