Actually, this criteria dates from the days before microcomputers or LANs were common and the common structure was (expensive) mainframe terminal controllers with dedicated speciality cabling to each terminal which was relatively cheap. The attraction of Ethernet at the time was a shared infrastructure of peer participants.

I would like to know what is meant in other projects with "The balance of costs between infrastructure and attached stations is not applicable to the automotive environment.”. What is infrastructure and what is station and what is the rational behind this requirement. Understanding well these points are the basis to build an answer to the comment.
