[802.3_SPMD] IEEE P802.3da/D2.1 10 Mb/s Single Pair Multidrop Segments Enhancement Working Group first recirculation ballot

Dear Task Force Participants,

With this e-mail, I'd like to announce the start of the IEEE P802.3da/D2.1 10 Mb/s Single Pair Multidrop Segments Enhancement Working Group first recirculation ballot.

Open date: Tuesday 4th February 2025
Close date: Wednesday 19th February 2025 23:59 AOE (23:59 UTC-12)

As stated in the announcement below, the ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Monday 18th November 2024. All comments received before the close of ballot will be considered, the one limitation however is that if you are not a member of the balloting group, and therefore cannot cast a ballot, you cannot designate comments as TR or ER since you cannot cast a Disapprove ballot.

Best regards,
Chad Jones
Chair, IEEE P802.3da 10 Mb/s Single Pair Multidrop Segments Enhancement Task Force

-----

Dear Colleagues,

This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot on the Amendment IEEE P802.3da 10 Mb/s Single Pair Multidrop Segments Enhancement. Remember that voting, as well as attendance, is a requirement to maintain your IEEE 802.3 member (voter) status <
https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://ieee802.org/3/rules/member.html*DOT3__;Iw!!NpxR!gCM-PCToghzMBTjpBb60IMiDvSHSIXzO7VB4AoGpV-X1rUVnnT89kL6K_RzpoBZC9bYDcyDBdgUS8dr0fsq9MuWCLj0$ >. Instructions for accessing the draft, casting your ballot and submitting comments follow this announcement. Please review the commenting instructions below to ensure you use the most up-to-date tools.

The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Monday, 18 November 2024.

Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM YOUR VOTE ON THE INITIAL BALLOT. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot, and you do not need to cast a new ballot.

BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 1st recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3da/D2.0 and IEEE P802.3da/D2.1 and the unsatisfied negative comments.

CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that the draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses, which are available at <
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/20/ec-20-0096-00-ACSD-p802-3da.pdf__;!!NpxR!gCM-PCToghzMBTjpBb60IMiDvSHSIXzO7VB4AoGpV-X1rUVnnT89kL6K_RzpoBZC9bYDcyDBdgUS8dr0fsq9czxgndQ$ >. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

BALLOT OPEN:
Tuesday, 4 February 2025

BALLOT CLOSE:
Wednesday, 19 February 2025 AOE (23:59 UTC-12)

The Project Authorization Request for this Amendment is available at <
https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.ieee802.org/3/da/P802d3da_PAR.pdf__;!!NpxR!gCM-PCToghzMBTjpBb60IMiDvSHSIXzO7VB4AoGpV-X1rUVnnT89kL6K_RzpoBZC9bYDcyDBdgUS8dr0fsq9IALE7SY$ > and includes the following:

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Physical Layer Specifications and Management Parameters for Enhancement of 10 Mb/s Operation over Single Balanced Pair Multidrop Segments

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Specify additions and modifications of the Physical Layer (including reconciliation sublayers), management parameters, Ethernet support for time synchronization protocols, and optional power delivery supporting multiple powered devices on the 10 Mb/s mixing segment.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Many applications in building, industrial, and transportation industries have begun the transition from legacy non-Ethernet networks to Ethernet. A number of these applications require enhancements to 10Mb/s multidrop single balanced pair networks, e.g., larger multidrop topologies, power delivery, TSSI (Time Synchronization Service Interface). These enhancements will increase the applications addressed by this technology.

Thank you for your participation in this ballot and careful review of the draft.
