[802.3_SPMD] 802.3da Isolation Proposal Post-Meeting Edits

Esteemed Isolation Enthusiasts,

I have implemented the feedback received during my presentation today in the attached documents. The key differences from what was presented today include:
  • Improving 188.10.1 General Safety instead of copying it from Clause 147, as well as preparing suggested revised text for a future Clause 147 maintenance request.
  • Moved the expository text into Annex J, which I ultimately edited to pave the way for other clauses to rely on it more extensively in the future.
  • Incorporated enhanced figures into Annex J to depict MPSE and MPD grounding architectures.
  • Improved upon the Clause 189 isolation requirement language, taking it beyond a simple copy of the PoE and PoDL requirements, resolving redundancies and ambiguities.
  • I took the potentially controversial stance that accessibility of conductors is the wrong criteria for PoE/PoDL/MPoE isolation requirements and broke with the other Clauses for MPoE in defining a new criteria.
  • I walked back my proposal that we should be able to ground MPDs and instead aligned with PoDL which only permits grounding MPSEs.
    • I am open to discussion on permitting MPD grounding, but would need to be sure we aren't causing problems as we haven't allowed this before.

I appreciate your attention today and welcome any and all feedback on this proposal ahead of our Thursday, March 20th 802.3da off-cycle Interim.
