It does seem that the mixing segment mode conversion requirement shouldn’t say TCL and ELTCTL while pointing to the same equation. It also seems to me that considering the multidrop application, ELTCTL probably
is not appropriate. Note that mode conversion measured at one end of the trunk, the 802.3da mixing segment isn’t terribly high loss, and nodes may be distributed anywhere along the trunk, with different ILs from one to another
making it pretty much undefined which IL to apply to get ELTCTL, and causing it not to matter that much, as mode coupling isn’t a primary noise source – but rather the level to which you get a common mode signal to later convert to differential can vary rather
