[802.3_ISOLATION] K.44 surge generators
I note that in your 1.2/50 generator voltage message, you used the 1.2/50-8/20 equivalent circuit from K.44. The inclusion of definitive generator circuits in ITU-T Recommendation K.44 has only happened in the past few years.
The catalyst for this was the issue of SC 77B IEC 61000-4-5 Edition 3. Edition 3 ignored the horizontal surge definition standards IEC 60060-1 and IEC 62475 from TC 42 and defines inaccurate waveform measurement techniques.
To avoid the potential confusion on 10/700 and 1.2/50-8/20 measurement, K.44 was updated to be independent of !EC 61000-4-5 Ed. 3 by:
- Removing surge references to IEC 61000-4-5
- Show component tolerances for the ITU-T circuit defined 10/700 generator
- Define the 1.2/50-8/20 generator waveforms by referencing the TC 42 horizontal surge standards IEC 60060-1 for the 1.2/50 and IEC 62475 for the 8/20
As the 1.2/50-8/20 output waveform is highly dependent on load we added to K.44 the best simulation circuit we could find out of the four that were published.
At the coming ITU-T SG 5 meeting I'm expecting to make a contribution of on component tolerances for the K.44 circuit defined 1.2/50 surge generator, which is referenced in IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1.

Mick
