Colleagues: As announced in the September interim Working Group meeting we will have an NEA meeting on 2 October, 2024 at 09h00 Central US time for initial consensus building on the following topic: Title: Building a Better MII for Single-Pair Ethernet and Beyond Description: Historically, the IEEE 802.3 MII interfaces have been superseded by lower-pin-count interfaces specified outside of IEEE by industry. SPE technologies would benefit from
low-pin-count single-PHY and multi-PHY serial interfaces that operate at lower speeds. This could serve to reduce implementation complexity but could also provide additional MII capabilities to better support new PHY features. The 802.3dg Task Force has reached
consensus that a new MII is desired to support its work, that the desired feature set might exceed the scope of either 802.3dg or 802.3da alone, and that a new IEEE 802.3 Reduced Pin Count MII project should be considered. The goal of presenting this to the
NEA is to build wider consensus among the 802.3 Working Group on the future of sub-gigabit speed MII development. Meeting coordinates can be found on the 802.3 call and meeting calendar here:
IEEE 802.3 Call and Meeting Calendar NOTES: There are 2 active NEA activities and John D’Ambrosia will send out information on the second meeting announced at the WG meeting. All IEEE 802.3 NEA meetings require the participants to review the following documents prior to an IEEE 802.3 meeting teleconference:
• IEEE SA patent policy • IEEE SA Copyright Policy • IEEE SA Participation Policy and Code of Ethics All of these policies may be found at
