This is the announcement of the electronic IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot on the amendment IEEE P802.3cd 50 Gb/s, 100 Gb/s, and 200 Gb/s Ethernet. The ballot group for this draft is the IEEE 802.3 voting membership as of Friday 26th May 2017.
Because this is a recirculation ballot, YOU ONLY NEED TO CAST A BALLOT IF YOU WISH TO CHANGE YOUR VOTE FROM THAT WHICH WAS RECORDED ON THE INITIAL BALLOT OR LAST RECIRCULATION. If you voted previously and your vote has not changed, the last ballot cast will be carried over to this ballot and you do not need to cast a new ballot.
BALLOT SCOPE:
During this IEEE 802.3 Working Group 2nd recirculation ballot, the scope of the ballot is the substantive changes between IEEE P802.3cd/D2.1 and IEEE P802.3cd/D2.2 and the unsatisfied negative comments.
CRITERIA FOR STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT:
One of the responsibilities as a balloter is to ensure that draft is consistent with the criteria for standards development (CSD) responses which are available at <https://mentor.ieee.org/802-ec/dcn/16/ec-16-0060-02-ACSD-802-3cd.pdf>. An Approve vote indicates your agreement that the draft is consistent with the CSD responses.

TITLE:
Standard for Ethernet Amendment: Media Access Control Parameters for 50 Gb/s and Physical Layers and Management Parameters for 50 Gb/s, 100 Gb/s, and 200 Gb/s Operation
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
Define Ethernet Media Access Control (MAC) parameters, Physical Layer specifications, and management parameters for the transfer of Ethernet format frames at 50 Gb/s over copper and optical media. Define additional Physical Layer specifications and management parameters at 100 Gb/s over copper and optical media. Define additional Physical Layer specifications and management parameters at 200 Gb/s over copper and multimode fiber physical media.
NEED FOR THE PROJECT:
Rapid growth of server, network, and internet traffic is driving the need for higher data rates, higher density and lower cost solutions. Advances in 50 Gb/s signaling technologies can be leveraged to create optimized solutions based on single instance or multiple instances in parallel. IEEE Std 802.3 does not currently define 50 Gb/s Ethernet rates nor define 100 Gb/s or 200 Gb/s Ethernet solutions based on these new technologies.
