All, I want to thank everyone for the recent discussion on the Beyond 400GbE CFI thread I initiated. Given the growing recognition of this effort, I am anticipating that individuals new to IEEE 802.3 may be joining the reflector. I want to make sure that these individuals are familiar with policies regarding discussion of cost in IEEE 802.3. Please see https://standards.ieee.org/content/dam/ieee-standards/standards/web/documents/other/antitrust.pdf, which addresses the IEEE Standards Antitrust and Competition, and “Cost Discussions” in Section 2. Also, it has been my experience that the appropriate way to do a relative cost analysis is not always understood. I would encourage anyone wishing to do such analysis to review this document. Please contact me if you have any questions. Finally, please note that this email is not in response to anyone’s email. It is just me as chair anticipating possible new users, who should be familiar with this document, which I, as an experienced individual within 802.3, often review myself.
