[802.3EEESG] Call for presentations - less than four weeks to the plenary
Folks,
The first meeting of the 802.3az task force will be held during the week
of November 11-16 at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. See
http://www.ieee802.org/meeting/index.html for meeting and registration
information. We are scheduled to meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday. Meetings will start at 9 AM and end at approximately 5 PM
except Thursday, which will end at noon. Presentations should be
focused on proposals as we work towards developing a baseline. My goal
is to adopt the baseline set of proposals at the end of the March 2008
meeting, which should be achievable if we get off to a good start at
this meeting.
I mentioned to a few of you that we might have a conference call after
the Seoul meeting, but after considering the idea further, I decided
that wouldn't necessarily be the most productive use of our time. We're
still in the state of not being able to make binding decisions.
Instead, I think we should use the reflector to discuss what needs to be
done. Here's a list of questions to be answered regarding things we
need to work on ( it's not comprehensive, so if you think of something
else, please add to it and contribute):
What is the maximum transition time?
What are the alternatives to frame-based communication to cause speed
changes?
How do we achieve transparency with upper layers?
How will a EEE PHY communicate with the control policy?
How much energy will be used by a "fast start" PHY?
How much energy will be used by a "subset" PHY?
What metrics should we use to measure energy use?
Just an observation, but we do not have an objective for "0BASE-T". We
do have an objective to reduce the transmit amplitude requirement for
10BASE-T PHYs.
Prospective presenters may submit your request per the guidelines at the
Procedure for Presenters web page:
http://grouper.ieee.org/groups/802/3/eee_study/public/presentproc.html
Presentation requests and materials are due to me by *Wednesday,
November 7th*. Presentations should be mailed to me at
mjbennett@ieee.org. Early requests and submissions are appreciated.
Please remember that any requests for time or submissions of
presentation material containing restrictive notices will be rejected.
Regards,
Mike
