[802.3AZ] 802.3az update and call for presentations

Folks,

The meeting in Orlando went well. I apologize for not getting an update
out sooner, but I picked up the flu on the way back and that kept me out
of commission last week. Our minutes have been posted and the joint
meeting minutes will be posted soon. The opening and closing plenary
presentations have been posted as well. We have adopted two proposals
into a baseline and we have a timeline.

We had a joint meeting with 802.1 Data Center Bridging folks. The joint
meeting minutes should be posted soon, but in summary, they would like
to have the ability to control a EEE PHY granularly and they believe
that not having granular control would limit the markets in which EEE
would be used. We will have a joint plenary meeting in July. The goal
of that meeting is to provide an update to 802.1, listen to progress
reports on DCB and AVB, and get their feedback; basically it will serve
as a checkpoint. We also need find out what they need from us to be
able to control the EEE PHY.

We still need to select proposals to meet the following objectives:

10BASE-T reduced amplitude
10GBASE-T
10GBASE-KR\KX4

Also, we need editors. A couple of people have expressed interest in
editing, but we will need several editors. Please contact me if you are
interesting in being an editor. It would be unfortunate to make
progress on the proposals and then have the project slip due to a lack
of editors to get the writing done.

The next meeting of the 802.3az task force will be located at the Hilton
Munich City Downtown during the week of May 12th, 2008. We will meet
Tuesday, May 13th through Thursday, May 15th from 9AM to 5PM. The due
date for presentations is Wednesday, May 7th. Presentations should
focus on proposals.

As for hotel and meeting registration information, I will send the link
out to the reflector as soon as it is available.

Anyone needing a visa invitation letter to attend the May interim
meeting should contact Dave Dwelley at Linear Technology
(ddwelley@linear.com).

Best regards,

Mike
