Re: [802.3_DIALOG] Next steps for the 50Gb/s Ethernet and the 100Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet Study groups

A quick update on the 50 Gb/s Ethernet and Next Generation 100 Gb/s & 200Gb/s Ethernet Study Groups

We now have webpages set up.  You can find them in the usual places but here are the links if you want them:
http://www.ieee802.org/3/50G/index.html 50Gb/s Ethernet Study Group
http://www.ieee802.org/3/NGOATH/index.html Next Generation 100 Gb/s & 200Gb/s Ethernet Study Group

We don’t have a reflector set up yet but that is in the works.  You’ll be able to find details on the webpages and I’ll send another announcement out to Dialog reflector as well when it is live.  We plan to just use one common email reflector for the two study groups up until it makes sense to separate.  This is just an attempt to minimize people having to join reflectors …

A reminder about tomorrow’s joint ad hoc meeting of the 25G (.3by) Task force and the 50G/100G/200G Study groups @ 8am PT/11am ET tomorrow.

Matt Brown sent out the agenda here:  http://www.ieee802.org/3/25GSG/email/msg00459.html

Dial in info is here:
http://www.ieee802.org/3/by/public/adhoc/index.html (or also on the various SG webpages)

Thanks...Mark

Subject: [802.3_DIALOG] Next steps for the 50Gb/s Ethernet and the 100Gb/s and 200 Gb/s Ethernet Study groups

Dear colleagues,

The two study groups for 50Gb/s Ethernet and for 100Gb/s and 200Gb/s Ethernet were approved by the 802 EC last week after gaining unanimous support from the 802.3 Working Group in the closing plenary.

I wanted to share the intended plan between now and the January interim meeting (week of Jan 18th, 2016).  We do not yet have reflectors or webpages set up but when we do, announcements will be made.

In the meantime I plan to charter ad hocs for the new study groups. The charter for both will be the same:    to discuss the different areas of work that will fall under the work of the study group and to prepare content and contributions towards the study group’s goal of developing the required documentation of objectives, PAR and CSD.

I wanted to announce that I intended to use the weekly Wednesday 8-10am PT P802.3by (25Gb/s Ethernet) ad hoc meeting timeslot and jointly use it for the two study groups too.  We will post the agenda’s beforehand so people know what topics we are covering when.  Dependent on contribution requests we will try to group the presentations in the order that makes the most sense.  This seemed the best way to avoid consuming too much time on people’s calendars while enabling us to make forward progress.

Matt Brown (25Gb/s Ethernet Ad hoc chair) sent out a call for presentations for the 25G ad hoc here.  The next meeting will be Wed Dec 2nd.

The dial in details are available on the P802.3by ad hoc webpage here and I will be sending out an Outlook calendar invite soon to the P802.3by reflector as well.

Please send any presentation requests to Matt Brown for P802.3by topics and to myself for the Study Group discussions (feel free to copy both of us).  Matt and I will coordinate between us and post agendas as soon as we can.  Given the added logistical complexity for the organizers, we will be strict on the Monday deadline for requests.

Best Regards…
