Most if not all of the Midspans I have looked at disconnect the spare from the input and pass the data pair directly through. This will work.

 

Even Gigabit Midspans have DC blocking caps to prevent the power going back to the switch.

 

Conclusion is that Midspan will always take priority for powering.

An endspan does not detect through a Midspan pair that is providing power but does for a pair that does not get power.

In any implementations, endspan or Midspan with DS, the PD needs to handle receive power with undefined time gap between pairs.

 

DS works!
