RE: [802.3af] Ethernet pairs for inline power

Thanks for the feedback regarding my original question

I had another question regarding the standard.

Is it true that under the mid span insertion option, there are
several different proposals for how to implement ( handshaking and polling)
such that 2 vendors that support using the unused pairs may not be
interoperable.

Paul,

Both are true. The device being powered must be able to accept power
supplied by either method.

I am new to this forum and I have a rather basic question

A requirements document that was put out 2 years ago had stated that either
pairs 1,2,3, and 6 or 4,5,7, and 8 were acceptable to use as part of the
802.3af standard. Is this still true today or is only one method approved.
